Tech Tip Thursday - Hawaii CyberCamps 2018
We have some opportunities to volunteer this Summer with CyberCamps. We are organizing 16+ CyberCamps across state and it would be great if you could find time to be an instructor at one of them. The slides and curriculum are provided. We really need someone to push slides and guide the students through foreign concepts like command line-fu or networking. Check out our CyberCamps Instructor survey and let us know if you'd be interested in helping us out.

Tech Tip Tuesday - Steganography
Steganography is the practice of concealing messages or information within other nonsecret text or data. Messages are commonly hidden in the “white space” of videos or pictures. Seemingly normal pictures could hold the key to winning things like tickets to Shakacon X. Super computers are not required to conceal your message. This website is one of many that can be used.

Tech Tip Tuesday - Meltdown and Spectre
The vulnerabilities of the year are here and it pretty much effects everything with a processor that was made in the last 20 years. Meltdown and Spectre were responsibly disclosed to manufacturers a few months ago and it is just now becoming public. Microsoft has issued out of cycle (not Patch Tuesday) update and other vendors are doing the same. Here are a couple of good talking points for each vulnerability.
“Meltdown breaks the most fundamental isolation between user applications and the operating system. This attack allows a program to access the memory, and thus also the secrets, of other programs and the operating system.”
“Spectre breaks the isolation between different applications. It allows an attacker to trick error-free programs, which follow best practices, into leaking their secrets. In fact, the safety checks of said best practices actually increase the attack surface and may make applications more susceptible to Spectre”

Tech Tip Tuesday - 2017 SANS Holiday Hack Challenge
Are you home for the holidays with nothing to do? Why not take the SANS Holiday Hack and compete for the Grand Prize, a free SANS Online Training course (normally priced around $5,000). Answers must be submitted before January 10, 2018 but the content will remain available well after. If this is your first SANS Holiday Hack, I would recommend checking out past challenges first. There’s a lot of open source intelligence on the Internets.
