The “What to Do If…” section covers some common issues like ransomware and identity theft. It also lists some tips for protecting yourself. It’s the perfect link to send someone asks, “Hey! Tech Tip Tuesday - SANS CyberStart

SANS CyberStart is a unique program that offers users a challenging environment to learn more about cybersecurity and the opportunity to tap into $650,000 in scholarships. The assessment challenges are available from now till July 28th and the full-scale program will run from August 1-28, 2017. It’s open to students 16 and older from seven states, to include Hawaii, and it’s FREE.

First off, H.A.T.S. off the Hawaiʻi Advanced Technology Society for winning the National Cyber League. The NCL is a great way to learn practical cybersecurity skills in a competitive environment. Tech Tip Tuesday - 2016 Po‘oihe Cyber Security Exercise

This year’s Po’oihe will be a capture the flagish, challenge based exercise with varying levels of difficulty. It will run from August 4-5 at the Hawaii Army National Guard Dining Facility at Kalaeloa. It’s a great opportunity to network and test your cybersecurity skills. There is a maximum of 100 participants so get your team together and register soon!

Tech Tip Tuesday – Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) Surveillance Self Defense

The EFF has put together overviews, tutorials, and briefings to defend yourself from surveillance by using secure technology and developing careful practices. The easiest way to get started is with one of their playlist. I would recommend the security starter pack as a baseline.

Tech Tip Tuesday - $10 Million in Cisco Global Cybersecurity Scholarship! (sort of)

Cisco is offering $10M is scholarships towards Cisco training. The Global Cybersecurity Scholarship program “will offer training, mentoring, and certification designed to hone the skills needed in the security operations center (SOC) analyst job role”. Tech Tip Tuesday – US Cyber Challenge: Cyber Quests April 2016

If you want to test your cyber incident response skills check out Cyber Quests. Participants will analyze packets, logs, and related scenarios to determine the nature of a variety of attacks, using skills associated with Security Monitoring and Event Analysts job requirements as set forth in the Mission Critical Role Project document developed by the Council on CyberSecurity.

The quiz is open from now to May 6th but you need to register before May 5th. Good luck!
